Founded in 1981, the Arlington Community Food Bank was established in response to the growing concern of hunger in the communities of Arlington and Lakewood within Snohomish County, Washington. They are a 501c3 non-profit corporation and their mission is to provide emergency food at no cost to children, families, and individuals within this area. They never turn anyone away without food!
Their operations are 100% volunteer, made up of dedicated community members who donate their time and talents as both staff and board members. They are able to keep our doors open because of the generosity of local businesses, organizations and individual donors.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life. In 2017, an estimated 1 in 8 Americans were food insecure, equating to 40 million Americans including more than 12 million children. Washington state ranks 10th in the country in overall wealth – and ranks 34th in food insecurity. 1 in 6 Washington kids live in a household that faces challenges in putting enough food on the table.
